My House is Freaking Cold

I’m sure yours is too sometimes. But like, frig my house is cold in the morning. So, since my feet are suffering, I’ve put a list of things together that I do to help me stay warm, or at least warmer, during the winter months.
Now, I live in Canada, so we get cold winters, as in -30°C winters. Sometimes it is just so freaking cold that breathing sucks. I’ve found that crawling under my house and adding insulation under my mobile home is only so helpful. I’m also broke all the time so cheap ways are the best ways.

I love carpet floors. Like, love them. But redoing my whole house to have carpet is expensive and unnecessary. So rugs!
I’m weird and I love the way carpet and rugs feel on my feet. I was reading an article based out of the UK about how much heat is lost through the floors and ceilings and the numbers are insane! – Link to that – It’s 10%! That’s a lot when you think about how long winter is! Plus, heat rises, and I’m pretty sure my ceiling isn’t insulated properly, yet I don’t know how to get up there.

For Christmas I’ve asked for new curtains for my bedroom, those double lined and blackout ones. – Something similar – I’ve heard that they work amazing in all seasons for keeping unwanted temperatures out, and the sun too during the summer.

I crochet once in awhile and my favourite thing to make is blankets. They’re warm and soft, and if I have a full stream on twitch to watch, or a couple of movies that I’ve seen before, I can make one every four to six hours. I just have to sit down and actually do it. Blankets hold so much heat, and making them just feels more satisfying. Plus I just started doing granny squares and it’s great! – Here’s a Pattern

My place doesn’t have a chimney, nor radiators, so I have to find other ways to make heat. I saw one of those terracotta pot heater things with the candles, but they’re more placebo than actual heat (from what I’ve read anyway) but they look super cool! I found a fun one to make using two pots and a stand. – Video Link – The physics behind this is super neat, and I have most of the parts, so I might just make one. And hope Shadow doesn’t try and kill it…

Unrelated, my new – Link for thing – that I’m going to start doing makes me feel more professional. So expect that to stay around for awhile.

While looking into more ways to stay warm for this post, and for the sake of my poor feet, I found an article saying I should see if my fan spins the other way. Pushing air down and throughout the room, instead of cooling everything down. Since heat rises, the fan spinning the other way can push the heat back down into the room. – Link to That

As I mentioned in my last post, I want to start baking. The amount of heat from an oven should be enough to really heat up the heart of my house. – Link to Post – And while browsing the internet, I found my new favourite baker. – Their Website – My boyfriend cooks a lot more than I do, so I may as well contribute to the overall snacks in my house. Pinterest has so many delicious baking recipes that I want to try! I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it!

Winter this year is supposed to be brutally cold through Canada. Every little thing I can do to stay warm is going to be used this time around. Cause like, holy frig man. It’s too damn cold. As always, support links – Here and Here – and follow me – Here and Here – Stay warm this winter! Anyways…

More Tuesday Tips!

Guess who caught a cold! I was sick over the weekend and let me tell you, I was literally useless for most of it, which sucks complete and utter ass. So for today, I wanted to compile all of my “get well soon” tricks. I spend a lot and I mean a lot of time on the internet, but sometimes “Dr. Google” just isn’t the way to go, ya know?

Do You Drink Tea?
Cause I do! All the damn time! And tea is a gift from the heavens let me tell you. Even if you’re not drinking it to “get better quick”, it’s like, 99.9% water. Which means you’re staying hydrated! And that’s exciting! Can you tell I had some cough medicine?
There are particular teas that are going to help more than others for sure, however I suck and hate them all. So I have been drinking earl grey and just adding stuff to it. Cinnamon makes me feel better so that’s usually my go to, although mint teas work wonders.

Own A Tub?
Holy snap, taking a bath! Now if you’re like me, sitting in the tub is boring. That just means we need to spice it up, right? I am a sucker for candles and bubbles. So naturally I light way too many candles and throw a bath bomb or some bubble bath in. Sitting and relaxing helps your body relax, which helps you get better just that little bit faster. You don’t really notice how being sick makes your whole body hurt and feel exhausted. The candles make amazing mood lighting which isn’t overwhelming to your eyes, and since you probably can’t smell, the insane amount of candles won’t ruin your day. I’m not lying when I say I light too many candles. The bath bombs and bubble bath are purely there to keep me wanting to sit in the tub.

Don’t Type Your Symptoms Into Google
Google is not a doctor. Please do yourself, and literally everyone else, a favour, if you’re scared that something is wrong GO SEE A REAL DOCTOR! They’re there to help.

Be Better Than Me And Remember To Eat
I woke up yesterday morning feeling a bit better, and starving since I forgot to eat for a whole day. Food is good for you. Your body needs to have energy to help you get better. Please remember to eat <3

Be Kind To Yourself
Remember to rest, take a day off work to heal. Catch up on a movie and relax. Your body needs time to do its thing. You matter, don’t forget that.

And That’s What I’ve Got
My advice only goes so far. But that’s what this is; advice. Don’t use this over a doctors medical opinion please. PLEASE. Against my cold, these tips have really helped me survive. That and Benadryl when I just cannot sleep. If you’re sick too, may you get better soon and are able to get back to your normal lifestyle.

On A Side Note
Happy first day of spooky season! I wish I wasn’t starting October off sick, but here we are.

Time to get SPOOKY

Trying Something New

People who get paid a lot more than I do say that it takes 21 days to develop or break a habit. Whether that’s not biting nails or getting into a workout routine, I think it’s legit.

For the past couple months, I’ve put myself into a rythm of waking up earlier and earlier. Now, 7:30 isn’t that crazy, but it’s something. I’m hoping to bump that to 7:00 so I can get into the habit of making a real lunch for work.

I saw a post on Tumblr saying to write, just go. Get a book and start scribbling thoughts. Quantity over quality to start. A book is an intimidating amount of words, but a story isn’t. We, as humans, tell stories all the time. I love that, and so I took it to heart. Getting farther in my book every day.

I used to crochet all the time and I miss doing that, so I’m going to start making blankets again, hopefully anyway. I really just want to keep myself busy since I have so much free time. I don’t like being bored. I’ve always got to be doing something with my time. Even playing a game makes me feel like I’m doing something. Even if it’s just farming turnips in Harvest Moon…

At least I’m keeping up with my blogging schedule! That’s a huge win for me! I appreciate all of my readers so much! Consider following me so you get updates! I’m also going to look into a newsletter so more people can get the updates.

Thanks for listening to me ramble!

Tuesday Tip!

I hate plastic. Like, haaaaaate plastic, so I was shopping for shampoo and conditioner the other day and found out I can buy them in bars! It works like soap but you lather your hair, and I find I use way less than I was before too. Although my favourite thing about them would be since they’re not “liquid” you can bring them on a flight. I travel enough now I can’t afford to keep buying the essentials everytime I land somewhere. I bought some from Lush but they’re not my favourite company so I need to find somewhere else to purchase them.

Sorry today’s post isn’t life changing. I’ve normally got posts prewritten so I can add a few details and carry on. Work is getting to me but I’m trying to be on top of this again. Keeping balance between multiple jobs and a personal life might end up being my next post even. If I remember.. Anyways …
