Making Up For Lost Time

Advertisements

Over the past few years I went through a lot, and with that, I missed a lot. I loved sitting on my couch and catching up on the newest TV shows and movies. Dating someone long term who takes something like that away from you, well, all I can say is I’m never doing that again. Since I have some free time again, I’ve been catching up. TV shows mostly are what I’m trying to get ahead of right now. With working being quiet, which happens too often, I’ve been doing some light bingeing.

I am a HUGE Supernatural fan. Great show, fantastic, amazing, I love it, and now I’m finishing it. Starting where I left off, season thirteen, I only have two more seasons before the show is just over. After that I’m thinking the Haunting of Bly Manor. Oh man I am so excited! The boyfriend is letting me use his Disney+ as well, so maybe I’ll pick up something on there too.

Yo, The Boys is awesome! We picked that up since we’re caught up on The Mandalorian. The concept is amazing and I don’t think I’ll ever watch a superhero movie the same ever again. Definitely graphic though, there’s a scene I actually just couldn’t watch and had to be told it was safe again. The premise of corporately owned superheroes is just brilliant, and people die so violently, it’s an adventure every episode.

Actually turning Supernatural on again, I’m realizing I should start from the beginning again. There’s quite a lot that just doesn’t him home as hard anymore. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an amazing show, but I really need to devote a weekend to just rewatching it. I’ll probably cry a whole bunch if I do that though…

Monday, when I got home, dad wanted to watch New Mutants. I thought it was going to be a TV show, but apparently not. I went in expecting a more adult themed X-Men style of show, with more blood and swearing kind of thing, but holy frick. The movie was intense and had an amazing tie to Native American mythology. More movies, or spinoffs? like this should get made! The odd scene had some scares, but is still totally worth watching!

Eventually here, the boyfriend and I are going to watch Breaking Bad too I think. That show has a good amount of seasons, so that’ll keep us busy for sure! As for now, that’s all I’ve been watching. And that’s all I have for today! Thanks for stopping by, and be safe out there!

Halloween in 2020

Advertisements

I have to work today. Guess who’s going in full costume!! Spoiler, it’s me! Oh I am so excited! Spirit Halloween is a great store that I spent way too much money at this year. I’ve got vampire fangs, a full pirate costume, and an inflated ego all ready to go. My boots are 100% impractical, and this waist belt thing is putting in WORK! I’m living for it.

Dad wants breakfast, so first stop is there. Man, this hat is massive! Every time I think about my hat I start laughing. I’m so excited! The lovely people there loved my costume. I’m supposed to “YAARRR” each person I talk to apparently. My dad wants me to report back on that, but I don’t think I will. Just sounds like it’ll kill my voice…

Now that I’m at work, I’ve stuck my nametag to my coat. I lowkey look dorky, but I feel awesome in this costume. I also forgot my fangs at home, although I talk better without them, and I work in sales. Being able to talk (or I guess communicate) is kind of my job. So far, work is quiet. I’m sitting here watching YouTube videos, writing this. Tonight is where the excitement will be. I’m having both my boyfriend and the roommates boyfriend over for scary movies!

There’s a rock in my boot… The highlight of my day so far has been trying to fish that out without taking the boot off. Oh, wait, maybe a customer? Or they’re headed to Tim Horton’s... Nope, not my customer. At this rate, I’ll catch up on all the YouTube I have yet to watch. Well, it’s only noon, so we’ll see.

Three in the afternoon and still not a whole lot. One real customer and I know him so…

I had two customers today. And one made me almost cry. Super not into that, but what do you do? Anyway, time to stop at the grocery store, grab the last few things we need, and then party! I mean, as much of a party as watching scary movies and drinking pop goes.

First movie, Candyman. Tony Todd is a great actor and I’m surprised I’ve never seen that movie before. An interesting concept and THE BEES! All around, good movie.

Second movie of the night, Night of the Living Dead. More Tony Todd I know, and a good idea. I got to show the roommate why I made the “solid doors” joke. All around, good time.

Last movie for us, As Above, So Below. What an interesting movie! Roommate’s boyfriend recommended it and my god what a good idea! It was like, creepy, suspenseful and I hadn’t seen it, so I needed a protection shoulder to hide behind. Scary movies are great! Only thing, I had to look the ending up because it seemed to, happy? Yeah, that’s probably the best way to describe it. All around good movie though and I’m glad it was recommended!

That’s it though, I’m tired. No kids came around but that’s probably a good thing. Thanks for coming with me! Talk soon!

Bingeing Some TV

Advertisements

Wow, I am behind on some amazing TV shows. Yesterday, yes, all of yesterday, I watched the last season on Lucifer and watched all of The Mandalorian. Two very different shows I know, but they were both on my list. And then the night was finished with the newest Star Wars movie since I never watched that.

Binge watching TV is something I haven’t done in a long time. Considering I’ve been overworking myself with both renovations and actual work, this was a great way to relax. A couple drinks and some food, it was a good time.

I was already most of the way through Lucifer when we started yesterday. I think we only had a few episodes left, and I’m so glad we finished it! That’s a great show. Tom Ellis does a great job with that role, and it kind of super attractive. Well, he does play the devil, so that makes sense. The season ends with a very DUH DUH DUUUUUHHHH kind of cliffhanger and I’m all for it. With the world being where it is though, I’m not sure when I’ll get season six.

The Mandalorian is kind of amazing. I’ve never watched that through, and my boyfriend suggested we give that a shot since the new season is out soon. Why not, right? I’m not the biggest Starwars nerd, but I’ve heard good things. Plus, I mean, Baby Yoda. The overall show is actually just great and I love the characters.

I’m glad my day was dedicated to relaxing. I really needed that, and I’m glad I got to spend it with the person I did. Plus he knows so much lore, so I could ask questions and actually get answers. I may also start buying Baby Yoda merch, but we won’t talk about it.

Sunday ended with the newest Starwars movie. I hadn’t actually finished that trilogy, so that was necessary. Visually, it was amazing! I’m going to watch them all through again so I know what’s going on better though. I found myself getting lost on certain things. Nonetheless, a fun movie!

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today! Have a good one, and be safe!!! Thanks for reading!

Studio Ghibli

What a brilliant studio! The first time I was in England was the first real time I got to experience, in recent memory, the legendary work through Spirited Away. Since then I’ve always wanted to watch them all. Recently, Netflix got, most? Maybe all?? I don’t know… Of them on their platform. These movies are totally worth a watch! Not all of them, in fact I’d almost say most of them I’d say are definitely for an older audience.

I own Castle in the Sky and Grave of the Fireflies on blu-ray, I bought them years ago and really need to learn to control my compulsive shopping... Those are definitely my favourite ones though. They just really stuck with me, and both have such different themes. The ability to tell such a beautiful yet heartbreaking story.

Still from Kiki’s Delivery Service

One of the most impressive things I’ve noticed is their strength in putting adult themes such as death into movies for a younger audience. You fall in love with them for that and then watch Princess Mononoke and your jaw hits the floor after the first fifteen minutes. That movie was brutal and unforgiving.

There’s still a few movies I have yet to watch, and I’m definitely buying a digital copy of Grave of the Fireflies since it’s my favourite movie from them. And I have to buy some merchandise! The roommate has a cute soup cup bowl thing for Kiki’s Delivery Service and I’m really wanting something similar!

Still from Grave of the Fireflies

I’ve cried, screamed over cats, drooled from buffets, and loved every second of each of these worlds and characters. I’m beyond impressed and honestly a tad upset with myself it took me so long to watch these. Binge these, it’s worth it.

That’s all I’ve got for today though, thanks for stopping by!! Stay safe out there! And stay tuned for Thursday especially this week!

The One Time my Dad Scared Me

Advertisements

Over the weekend, myself, the roommate and a friend were in my living room talking about how The Tower in tarot sets are actually the scary card right? At some point I went “ahh” and my dad banged on the window behind me and went “AHHHH” much louder. We all jumped like absolute wimps, but that got me remembering stuff! Hence this post.

When I was younger, and we had just sent up cable in my room, I had started getting courageous. We spent all day taping the cords down and drilling holes into the wall to make sure the cables didn’t get wrecked by accident. I felt so cool, having my own CRT in my bedroom. That thing weighed so much, and sat on my old dresser all neat.

Later that night, and by late I mean like 8pm, I decided I was going to watch a scary movie. The only good one was Dawn of the Dead on Spike TV I think? It may have been on AMC. I’ve seen that movie a few times, but it’s a good movie so why not right?

The Movie Poster

The credits had just rolled, and I hear a sudden thud at the front door. My mind went “did I accidentally lock my dad out” and I got up. My dad, thinking he was hilarious, was pretending to be a zombie.
My immediate thought was “dad, stop” but of course, my dad won’t give up. He’s in it for the laughing on the floor later about it deal.

One thing my dad doesn’t get enough credit for is his determination. He did not stop shuffling down the hallway. It didn’t matter the terror in my eyes or the “I’ll call grandma” threats I kept making, he just slowly walked down the hall. By this point, I’m convinced he’s actually a zombie, I’m a wuss alright, and I don’t know what to do. This was probably one of the last years we had a landline, so I grabbed it and locked myself in the bathroom.

I’m crying my eyes out while trying to call my grandmother and my fucking dad thinks it’s a great idea to bang on the bathroom door. My poor grandma picks up the phone to me crying and screaming in my bathtub saying “dad is a zombie and I need help” while forgetting to breathe. My grandma, man, what a woman. She laughs at me and says to get up and tell him off.

I took like an hour of me hiding in the bathroom before I was okay. My dad had a great time, the asshole… I love my dad but sometimes man… And my grandmother was proud no one got hurt. After that, I never watched horror movies on my own until I was like, twenty. Looking back at it, I really enjoy I remembered that. I’ll hold onto that memory for as long as I can.

Thanks for coming with me down memory lane today! I hope you have an awesome day! Be safe!
