Summer Dates


Have I mentioned it’s hot out yet? ‘Cause it’s hot… In the summer spirit, the roommate and I are out together again, bringing up my date standards. Back into Kelowna we go! Although, no creepy people this time..
We saw a TikTok awhile back about a place in town called Karat. It’s a chocolate and pastry shop that’s all local and made in house. So, that’s our first stop!

The aesthetic of that store is top notch! I fell in love before we even walked in! (Future editing note, apparently the baker there knows a good friend of mine, so I’ll be going back!) We ended up splitting a delicious veggie sandwich! 

I’ve said to my roommate that 35 is too hot, but 30 is manageable, so we are trying to not spend too much time downtown. I say that, but, have I ever talked about my favourite bar downtown? I went back and looked and I don’t think so, but it was called Muninn’s Post. It was a viking bar that had board games and a stellar staff. My group of Magic nerds definitely loved that place. The reason I bring it up is because they sold and now it’s a cafe.

Twice the Dice is it’s new name. We were walking by and saw a chess table outside. and of course, I clued in and ran inside super excited! I wandered around looking at the shelves or board games just amazed at how full it was with life. The owner is very friendly and talked to me about renovations and Magic for a bit. I’m glad, that little shop appears to be in good hands. She kept the big viking hull as the counter too which was comforting to see. 

After our little adventure has got rather warm, so we’ve decided to hit up the mall. See if we can blow way too much money on shoes. 
No shoes, but there were some redeeming sweaters. Pastel pink is everywhere and I am a sucker for that as of like three months ago! Only real downside, I was about ready to throw down with this lady for trash talking her own kid for having feelings. The poor girl got overwhelmed about choices and started to get worked up, and this woman literally shouts at her “what’s wrong with you!” My god, some people are dooming the next generation.

Our social batteries are running low, so our buddy is going to pick us up. Apparently there’s a food truck event downtown, so that for dinner and then homeward bound. Spending the day out with my roommate was a lot of fun. I love her dearly and am blessed to have her in my life. But yeah, that was our adventure. Thanks for coming with us!

Master Chef Me


YO OKAY SO I JUST WANT TO SAY I’M EXCITED SO I MAY USE SOME SLANG AND I’M SORRY BUT I’M AMAZING ONCE IN A BLUE MOON!!! So, I made dinner the other night. I know that’s not the most exciting thing ever, but hear me out okay. Up in my cupboard is some Red Lobster biscuit mix, like three boxes worth. If you’ve never had them, they’re the closest thing Canadian’s can have to the breaded crack that is Olive Garden bread. 10/10 would recommend to every person I’ve ever met who can eat bread.

I wanted to make chicken nuggets for dinner. I was feeling twelve at heart and wanted nuggets and fries, and I’ve made that before, however I had no breadcrumbs left. My mentality, make the biscuits, put them through a food processor and BOOM, breadcrumbs. My lovely boyfriend was all, “why not just wrap the chicken in the batter mix?”
Honestly that was the best idea in the whole world. So naturally I had to try it. Biscuit mix is so sticky, and I’m saying that. I’ve handled a lot over my few years of life, and I can tell you, biscuit mix is sticky. I could not get it to hold chicken and not my hand to save my dang life.

Okay, new plan. It’s basically just bread right? So out came the flour, and then attempt number two. Wrapping bits of chicken is apparently really difficult for me? Roommate suggested I wrap them like a dumpling and then roll them out like a meatball.

It took attempt three to really get the shape I wanted for these nuggets, but I had so much fun! It took awhile of rolling out and flouring each biscuit ball, but holy frick was it fun! I laid out 24 of those bad boys, and set them to bake.
I got to use my first thermometer for checking the temperature for the chicken, which was super neat, and then I made the fries after, since I only have one tray and accidentally misplaced my other two really nice ones.

All in all, dinner was really good. Homemade honey mustard was made, and a really yummy kale salad to go with everything. Team work made a dream work. I am so impressed with how that turned out in the end and as much as I’d love to do it again, that was way too much bread. I still have one box of those biscuits left, so I think I’ll just make them to compliment a different meal later.

So, yeah, that was my dinner adventure. I was so excited by what I had made, and I wanted to share it with the world. The biscuits come with a garlic butter sauce mix, which we used the next day to spice up pasta. All in all, it was fun, but that’s all I’ve got for today. Thanks for reading!

Been Cookin


Not only because I’m broke, but also because I enjoy eating. My big thing right now is chicken. It’s easy and just overall kind of fun to make. Now, full disclaimer, I am not a chef, I’ve never had formal training, and I only eat one real meal, maybe two, in a day. So I really needed to find something to cook that actually gave me energy throughout my day.
My boyfriend, who actually cooked for a living, suggested chicken. It’s cheap and easy to cook with. I figured I’d give it a shot, may as well right? So, this recipe of sorts is what I made and I am super impressed with how different it is every time I make it.

I took a chicken breast and sliced it up into almost one inch by one inch cubes, just little bits mostly because I’m lazy and that means it cooks faster, and threw it in a fry pan with just enough oil to almost cover the bottom (I know it’s a frying pan, but until I was like sixteen I always thought it was a fry pan. Don’t judge me.) Then I just fry it until the chicken is white on the outside. From there, seasoning! Which changes literally every time I make it, but usually I use seasoning salt and something spicy, and I am generous with the amount of seasoning I use. It’s kind of terrible, but I love it. From there, cook until it’s actually cooked. I’ll take my flipper and cut pieces in half while in the pan to make sure it’s not still pink, I may be lazy, but I like being alive.

Part two can go in different directions, depending on how hungry I am. Sometimes I’ll dish and just eat chicken, other times I’ll cook eggs and eat all the chicken product. But a friend of mine recommended frozen veggies. So I think that’s my new go to. If I make eggs, I use the left over oil in the pan and seasoning for my eggs, but I assume I can do the same with my new veggie plan, so stay tuned for that.

Another fun recipe that I found and then butchered, because I’m dumb, was making chicken nuggets. And they’re easy too! You just cut the chicken the same, and in three different bowls, I put flour, and couple beaten eggs, and in bowl three breadcrumbs and some seasoning. Just dip the chicken in one bowl at a time making sure it’s been covered every time and then lay them out on a baking sheet covered in tin foil. Have the oven set to 400° and put the nuggets in for twelve minutes, take them out and flip them over, then back in for another twelve minutes. The original recipe I was following said ten on each side, but I wanted more crunch because that’s how nuggets should be.

To partner with the nuggets, I’ll roast potatoes. They are by far the easiest thing I’ve ever made, they just take awhile and I’m impatient. I’d throw the potatoes in first as they take a lot longer, but cook at the same temperature. It doesn’t matter which potatoes you use, at least I don’t think it does, I like to use russet ones just because I grew them over the summer so I had a lot to use.

With the potatoes, wash them first, as you should with every vegetable or fruit honestly, and get ready to cut them. I slice them into cubes just larger than the nuggets. Throw all your potato bits into a large mixing bowl, or do it in sections like I had to. With the potatoes, I add salt, peppers, garlic and a good quality oil, and mix them up real good. Make sure they’re mixed together, don’t want anything getting burned. And cook for an hour. They turn out so amazing every time and I love it! They’re my favourite thing to cook, next to the chicken.

And yeah, there you have it. I’m cooking and being an adult! And it isn’t nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be! I enjoy doing this and want to cook all the time now, but then I’ll have to much food and just never get anywhere it’ll go bad and it’s just a bad idea. Cooking all of this food has been really great though. I’m definitely not going to stop now!

Have You Tried Spaghetti Icecream?


A group of friends and I heard about a place in Kelowna that selling icecream that looks like spaghetti. After we heard about it we had to go look! We all wanted to know how do they do it! Our journey started with asking around until we got a name. Amore Mio, an Italian gelato shop. When we found it finally, we were so excited! Discovery at its finest if I do say so myself.

When we got there we got to meet the owner who was super friendly. I started asking about how they make the icecream and he said it’s actually gelato. The gelato is compressed which makes the noodle like look, strawberry syrup makes the sauce, and white chocolate makes the cheese effect. At first I was skeptical, but holy crap it was so yummy!

All five of us ended up leaving a review about them about how friendly and amazing everything was. If you have the opportunity to go, I would recommend it one hundred times over. Just the experience enough was worth it! Not to mention the shop is right downtown, you can see the water from there.

Needless to say, icecream was the best idea, and I would always recommend Amore Mio. Anyways…
