I know right? Kelowna has a Kangaroo Farm? What?! Way out by Kelowna International Airport, or YLW, is the farm, and my god that is the most magical place I’ve been to in awhile! I say kangaroos, but there’s a lot of different animals living there now, and the open space for everyone felt welcoming.
When you first enter the farm, area, thing, you find their right side pasture first. The lovely staff made sure everyone was aware, the kangaroos on that side didn’t want to be pet that day and to make sure no one was running around. Turkeys, smaller birds, a snake, some tortoises, a porcupine and an emu all lived out in that area. I think that was all of them, and I don’t know birds well enough to know what we were looking at... A couple days ago we had a few new cases pop up in the Downtown area, so no one was allowed to hold the snake. I get it though.
From there, the kangaroos that were feeling social side of the farm was next. That side had ducks, chickens, lots of kangaroos, and a separate enclosure for goats. Those poor goats, they eat everything so strollers aren’t allowed in there. I love kangaroos, don’t get me wrong, but chickens and goats are just, the best! I have such a soft spot for them, I can’t explain it. OH and I almost forgot about the capybaras, such peaceful creatures, hiding in the shade.
I love the goats, I got up and pet them and followed them around, like I love goats! I want one, or five, and I just, they’re great! One day I’m going to have one, it’s going to happen.
Feeding kangaroos, almost stealing a goat, watching an emu get a bath, and the peacock I almost forgot who wouldn’t open his tail were just some of the amazing things I got to do. I’m so glad we went and on such a nice day too!
But that’s all I’ve got for today! Thanks for stopping by! Be safe out there!
